Roleplay Sample:
If Travis ever planned to go into the recreation room, he would keep that in mind. And told Trip so.
"How can you stay so lean?" the engineer demanded with a frown. "It ain't fair. Ain't fair at all."
"I don't really eat," Travis said innocently with a shrug. It was true. He would go to the mess hall, but he had never really been a big eater. If he had work to do, food was the first thing to get cut from his list of priorities. On the cargo ship where he had spent his childhood, they went through food with care. He had learned to survive for long periods of time without it, until he found he had to remember to make himself eat from time to time.
Trip blinked, his jogging slowing for a moment. Then he shook his head. "Never mind. It's fair." His speed increased, and he began to pull ahead of the helmsman. Travis called after him:
"Don't you have the next shift?"
"Yep, but I've still got three decks to go before I get there," Trip replied without looking back.
The shift started in less than 5 minutes. And Trip was still in his exercise uniform.
Sighing, Travis Mayweather entered the turbolift, pressed a button, and was on his way to the bridge. As per usual, several decks away his fingers were already aching to touch the controls. He had to clasp them behind his back, humming a Christmas carol under his breath to distract himself. It had been almost three days since he had taken the helm, because Captain Archer had wanted to give him time to recover from a sickness he had picked up in that spaceport. (He knew that hakla had tasted fishy. He should have sent it right back to the kitchens.) But after so long away from the controls, he almost physically craved the feeling of the console beneath his hands.
There was a slight 'ding'. Travis quickly ran a dark hand across his short black hair, walking through the doors as they hissed open.
"Morning, Travis," Archer said distractedly after a quick glance in his direction.
"Morning, sir," he replied as the captain went back to studying his console. He quickly glided to the helm, tapping his replacement on the shoulder. Hutchison glanced up, noticing him for the first time, and graciously got up out of the chair.
"Nice to see you up and about, Ensign," he said lightly with a wink as they changed places. "Was the porcelain god merciful last night?"
Travis blushed, while Malcolm chuckled in his corner. He could swear a corner of the captain's mouth twitched, and T'Pol tactfully immersed herself in something in the viewer. "Yes," he replied. "And he wanted me to tell you if you don't catch up on your prayers, you'll be praying to him again quite soon, and it may involve a repeat of last year's Christmas party."
Now it was his turn to blush. The captain actually burst out laughing (if Travis recalled correctly, Archer had been involved in the incident), Malcolm 'tsk-tsked' in his corner with a smirk, and T'Pol let out a barely audible sigh of exasperation through her nose.
Travis, a slight smile on his lips, turned back to his console--his console, God dammit--and rested his fingers in their usual places. Adjust the course heading a little bit, ease up on the starboard nacelles just a tad...and there. She was sailing like a queen.
This was where he wanted to be. [/ul]
